Trifecta of Funk - VA - King Funk CD 00 w VA - Funk 45 Sessions [1967-1974] 2CD 05 w Casablanca - The Lost Funk CD 74 03
A big week of compilations here at DU and so when I got the request for the Casablanca CD I added my old favorite funk CD's that I actually thought I had ripped already but hadn't. These CD's are the best of funk IMO and why I love the genre so much and I am calling it a trifecta to help remember it since it contains: Original funk song classics like one of my favorite songs I have mentioned in the past by Archie Bell "Tighten Up" in original form like the others on King Funk, a double CD compiling the best format of 12 inch EP's of absolute the funkiest tunes around, and the last is the request of an album that wasn't released at the time but now available to get you that smooth full album with Steely Dan cover and other great tunes from Casablanca. Artist include: James Brown, Cyril Neville, Harvey and the Phenominals, The Honey Drippers, Kool and the Gang, Black Nasty, Marvin Gaye, The Rimshots, The Huck Daniels Co., Andre Williams, Ann Sexton, The Majestics, The Unemployed, Lee Sain, David Batiste & The Gladiators, ZZ Hill, The Mainsteeters, Maceo And All The King's Men, Chuck Carbo, The Meters, Fred Wesley & The JB's, The Latin Breed, The Backyard Heavies, Lynn Day, The Identities, The Fabulous Originals, Pace-Setters, (Big) Al Downing, The Mobile Blue, Chuck Brooks, Mary Jane Hooper, The T.S.U. Toronados, Moody Scott, Sterling Harrison, The Ambassadors, JJ Malone, Bill Doggett, Hank Ballard, Marie Queenie Lyons, Roosevelt Matthews, James K-Nine, The Presidents, The Sons Of Funk, Over Night Low, Gloria Walker, J Hines and the Fellows, The Coasters, Little Royal, Dan Brantley, James Duncan, Bill Doggett, Soul East and Toby King. Enjoy!
VA - GOING SURFIN' MPST LP 73
Well I thought this excellent per usual request from our own E.W. would go nicely this week with the overload on compilations this week as you all may be 'going surfin' through the multitude of songs. This obscure movie soundtrack has great sounding tunes (vinyl in good shape) by: Dan & Jean (pun play ha ha!), April Fulladosa (great name btw), Phil Hawkins (the third Hawkins I posted this week), Al Okie, Fred Kaplan, Alicia Cory, Cathy Dragon, Richard Henn, Val Johns, Dennis Fullerton, Alicia Coroy and Protein Bros. Enjoy! https://bestfile.io/ywXaMQasUrQl2SU/file
VA - EAST SIDE STORY [Vol. 1-15] LP CD
A big thanks to Rick Saunders who posts at the Twilight Zone blog for having the volumes 13-15 which came out after the original bootleg series of which I only had found the volume 9 at Goodwill and so got the others. However, the volume 11 side B songs after the opener had a drop out on the right channel so I used CD copies from youtube that sound just as good. As an after thought I didn't dig deep into reading the labels and so was a little disappointed by the series as it had a bit much doo wop for me (similar artists to the "It's Only Rock & Roll" series post today) and I was thinking it would be more like my compilation I made of the KMOJ radio playlist for their old show done by Chilly Charles called 'Back In The Days Of Soul' that I listened to through college while going to Cheapo records on the busline and getting vinyl of what I heard for $0.25 each during the clearing out phase after CD's showed up. Thus I am posting in place the expired links again and added the 'I Do Love You' track from above comp. by Billy Stewart that was played on the radio show but I could never find it:

VA - THE ROCK 'N' ROLL ERA 54 - 64 CD w tapes
IT'S ONLY ROCK & ROLL: Well, certainly had to include THIS repost for the theme as it covers all the years and introduces this fantastic series I fished out of the Goodwill bin one day and I still have a handful of tapes from this series left to rip that feature specific artists. What I wrote before: Got these all at Goodwill with no noticeable gaps in years although there were two albums for some years called 'Still Rockin' but I do connect all the years of rock 'n' roll from it's inception in like 1954 to 1964 when the "Beatle boys" arrived. A great history you may want to read and it too long to put here, suffice it to say this compilation covers all those memorable combinations of hums from catchy songs that stuck in my head growing up and so this would make a fabulous desert island disc. O.K. here are the artists: Fats Domino, Carl Perkins, The Five Satins, Sanford Clark, Shirley and Lee, The Teen Queens, Chuck Berry, Mickey and Sylvia, Gene Vincent, The Platters, Bill Doggett, Little Richard, The Cadets, Clyde McPhatter, Ray Charles, Sonny James, Frankie Lymon and the Teenagers, Little Willie John, Bill Haley and the Comets, Ivory Joe Hunter, The Crickets, Paul Anka, Joe Bennett and the Sparkletones, Bill Justis, Sam Cooke, The Diamonds, The Hollywood Flames, Jimmy Bowen with the Rhythm Orchard, The Platters, Clarence 'Frogman' Henry, Buddy Knox, Lloyd Price, The Dell-Vikings, Larry Williams, Huey 'Piano' Sith and the Clowns, Eddie Cochran, Conway Twitty, Little Anthony and the Imperials, The Coasters, Duane Eddy, The Silhouettes, Bobby Darin, The Champs, The Chantels, The Elegants, The Monotones, Jerry Lee Lewis, Jody Reynolds, Bobby Day, Big Bopper, The Teddy Bears, Bobby Freeman, Jimmy Clanton, The Johnny Otis Show, Chuck Willis, The Chordettes, The Danleers, Ritchie Valens, Robert and Johnny, Harvey and the Moonglows, Buddy Holly, The Olympics, The Shields, Dion and the Belmonts, Jimmy McCracklin, Jerry Butler and the Impressions, Danny and the Juniors, Link Wray and His Ray Men, Jan and Arnie, The Fiestas, The Crests, LaVern Baker, Phil Phillips, Wilbert Harrison, Bill Parsons, Santo and Johnny, The Bell Notes, The Impalas, The Fleetwoods, Chris Kenner, The Shirelles, Gary 'U.S.' Bonds, The Tokens, The Capris, The Marcels, Bobby Lewis, The Miracles, The Jive Five, Ernie K-Doe, Dee Clark Joey Dee and the Starliters, Del Shannon, Little Caesar and the Romans, The Marvelettes, Ben E. Ayshea - st CD 70 w Lift Off With Ayshea CD 74
Born in Highgate, London, and educated at Arts Educational School, London, Ayshea was trained in ballet, music, drama and dance. She made her film debut at the age of nine as an uncredited extra in the film, Tom Thumb (1958). At sixteen, she was signed to her first record label, for the Fontana label, who released her debut single, "Eeny Meeny" in 1965. She made appearances on television shows such as Thank Your Lucky Stars and Discotheque. Granada TV's producer Muriel Young hired Ayshea to host her own pop show, Lift Off With Ayshea in 1969. The series ran for 144 episodes lasting until 1974.
After being romantically linked with Steve Winwood, Chas Chandler and Rod Stewart, she married Cat Stevens' record producer, Chris Brough (the son of ventriloquist Peter Brough), who produced her records and was her manager.
Ayshea was a regular on quiz shows such as The Golden Shot and Celebrity Squares. As an actress, she appeared on Jason King and had a recurring role on UFO, the Gerry Anderson live-action series. After starring in pantomimes and summer shows all over the UK, Ayshea then built up a large following for her live cabaret performances.
Ayshea and Chris Brough divorced in the 1970s. In 1975, she represented Great Britain at the World Popular Song Festival in Tokyo with a song written for her by Elton John, entitled "The Flowers Will Never Die". Following an engagement to Roy Wood, who wrote and produced her single "Farewell", she later married Steve Alder who had the lead role in the London stage production of the musical Jesus Christ Superstar.
Ayshea moved to Los Angeles and appeared in the movies Gotcha (1985) and Demolition Man (1993). Married to the CBS Sportsline founder, Mike Levy, Beverly Hills became her permanent home. For many years, she was a Beverly Hills socialite and ran a property development and interior design business.
In 2000, Ayshea moved back to the UK (in Grantham, Lincolnshire) to be close to her mother, Rose Sayers (1925 - 2017)
